Florida-based artist, Mike Brooks, works in the re-work of mixed media. With a strong focus on color theory and an emphasis on process over product, Brooks’ work elicits a theme he entitles “deconstructionism” Continuously working atop his own paintings, underlying tones of a past life gently nudge the viewer toward the possibility of a more complex image. The strokes of his brush; both tedious and tensionless.
With an impressive range of style much of Brooks’ work speaks to the lawlessness of American action painting, while other work is reminiscent of Mondrian’s exceptional organization of shape and color. Both absurdity and calculation find their respective places in Mike Brooks’ world of opportunity.
